2024 Orange County Crime Victims’ Rights Ceremony
Honoring Children who Have Been Victimized by Crime
The 2024 Orange County Crime Victims’ Rights Ceremony, held as part of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, is an annual gathering to honor victims and listen to survivors tell their stories of overcoming and reshaping their lives – and how the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, alongside our law enforcement partners and victim advocates continues to fight for victims’ rights.

This year’s speakers include:
• Debra Hernandez, the president of the Orange County Chapter of Parents of Murdered Children, whose 20-year-old son Jonathan was murdered
•California Highway Patrol Lt. Tannon Brown who was part of the investigative team who identified and tracked down the man who shot and killed 6-year-old Aiden Leos on the 55 freeway
• Arely Perez, the mother of a 10-year-old Anaheim girl who was brutally tortured by her stepmother
• James Alvarez, the father of a 3-year-old girl who survived an emergency C-section after her 8-months pregnant mother was hit and killed by an impaired driver with three prior DUI convictions
• Patricia Wenskunas, Founder/CEO of Crime Survivors, Inc.
• Lita Mercado, Waymakers
• Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer
The Southern California Children’s Chorus will perform the National Anthem and the Association of Orange County Deputy Sheriffs Pipes & Drums Band will perform Amazing Grace.
Any person who may protest the Crime Victims’ Rally in person will be directed to a designated public space where true expression is welcome.
