In an effort to promote greater transparency and accountability, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office will begin posting charging and prosecution data online. We are currently working to improve our capacity for the consistent collection and reporting of accurate information. As our work continues, standard practices for data collection and reporting will be enhanced.
Notwithstanding our desire to promote transparency and understanding of the criminal justice system, OCDA is ethically bound to protect the privacy rights of many persons – including victims, witnesses, and suspects. Consequently, we are often prohibited from releasing personal identifying information of such individuals. We are also unable to release information which would compromise the integrity of active investigations or prosecutions. Additionally, juvenile case information is protected from public disclosure under California law, with very few exceptions.
Regardless of the many legal prohibitions we must navigate to achieve transparency, OCDA remains committed to sharing data with the public to the extent legally allowed.
Data is organized by the calendar year the case was filed, not the date of any subsequent action (i.e., all charges, dispositions, sentences, and diversion notations are indicated in the filing year regardless of when the action occurred).
Data is current as of the dates indicated and updates to cases after the data is posted are not included in the portal unless otherwise indicated.
- Data is current as of 7/1/2026.
- Annual data will be posted by July of the following year. In addition, one additional year’s data will be updated at that time. For example, in July 2025, calendar year 2024 data will be posted and calendar year 2023 data will be updated.
Note that all data is transitory as rejected cases can be filed, dispositions and sentences can happen years after filing, and charges can be added and removed as complaints are amended.
Every effort is made to ensure complete and accurate data. However, data entry procedures and technical limitations affect the data, and data may contain human data entry errors, including missing data.
For cases that were SEALED via court order, every attempt was made to remove case specifics (def, charge, sentence, diversion, and special circumstances details). These cases have information on the case table and are tagged as SEALED on the defendant table.
Only misdemeanor and felony criminal cases are posted in the portal. Infractions and civil cases are not included.
Prior to 2015, only adult filed cases are included. In 2015, adult rejected cases were added to the posted datasets. In addition, in 2015 diversion details and decisions on special circumstance cases were added to the portal.
Data regarding Person ID on rejected cases are not published.
